Introduction
One of the central arguments made by supporters of Sean Kirkpatrick is that some of the most persuasive UAP narratives gain credibility through repetition rather than through genuinely independent evidence. In this view, the problem is not necessarily widespread deception. What circular reporting means in UAP claims
Circular reporting occurs when a claim appears to be confirmed by several sources, but those sources are ultimately drawing from the same original information stream.
In ordinary journalism and intelligence analysis, investigators try to establish whether reports are truly independent. If five people repeat the same rumour, that is not equivalent to five independent witnesses. The distinction matters because apparent corroboration is often treated as evidence.
Applied to UAP claims, the pattern can look like this:
- A person hears a story about a secret programme.
- They share it with colleagues or researchers.
- The story appears in books, interviews, podcasts, or briefings.
- New listeners encounter the claim from multiple places.
- Those listeners then cite the widespread discussion as evidence that the claim must be true.
At that point, the story can appear heavily supported even if the underlying source trail remains narrow.
Kirkpatrick argued that many high-profile allegations about hidden government possession of non-human technology displayed exactly this characteristic. The UAP field contains features that make circular reporting especially difficult to detect.
Many claims involve classified programmes, compartmented access, or alleged activities that cannot easily be checked by outsiders. When details are unavailable, participants often rely on reputation, authority, and second-hand accounts.
This creates a powerful feedback mechanism:

Yet the overlap may exist because everyone ultimately heard the same rumour from the same original source.

When media repetition starts to look like evidence
The rumour loop becomes more persuasive when information crosses between different communities.
A story might begin in a private UFO research network, appear in a podcast interview, be discussed on social media, reach journalists, enter congressional discussion, and then return to the UFO community as evidence that government officials are taking the allegation seriously.
At each stage, the story appears to gain legitimacy.
Supporters of Kirkpatrick argue that this process can create an illusion of mounting evidence. A congressional inquiry, for example, may demonstrate that lawmakers are investigating a claim, but it does not necessarily verify that the claim is true. Likewise, extensive media coverage may show public interest rather than factual confirmation.

AARO’s 2024 historical report made the circular-reporting issue unusually explicit.

The office further stated that many alleged programmes either did not exist, had been misunderstood, or were actually legitimate national-security activities unrelated to extraterrestrial technology.
